Last Night’s Debate: Watching the World’s Biggest Liar Slide into Dementia
Even I, who despise Donito Trumpolini (my favorite name for The Donald) as a liar, sexual predator, whore monger and convicted felon, and who believes he intends to destroy our democracy… even I felt a little bit sorry for him. When one has been blatantly and unabashedly lying all one’s life… and one is now approaching his ninth decade… and the first signs of dementia manifest… the lies can become so bizarre as to appear pathetic.
This is what I saw last night. Among Trumpolini’s wildest assertions (all demonstrably false and glaringly absurd):
Illegal aliens are eating Americans’ pets.
Untold and uncounted millions have died in the Russo-Ukranian War.
Governor Walz favors killing babies after they are born.
I have to ask: Does Trumpolini believe such nonsense? If so, the dementia is more advanced than I suspect. Or are these the wild rants of a man who has been lying so long that all the guardrails are now off… who is no longer able to gauge when he has abandoned all possible plausibility and is unmasking the buffoon behind the Mussolini scowl?
It must be one or the other. Either he believes the nonsense he is spouting. That’s dementia. Or he knows he’s spouting lies, but is no longer able to hear how absurd the lies sound. Either way, it’s just a little bit poignant to see one of the 21st century’s greatest villains in the early days of his decline. Trumpolini’s entertainment value —- always a modest compensation for his frightening rhetoric —- was lost last night.
